Here’s what Shariah, CEX, DEX and Meme actually mean.

But what do they actually mean?
Let’s break them down.
Shariah-Compliant Assets
Let’s begin with a category you may already be familiar with on Hata: Shariah-compliant digital assets.
What makes a digital asset Shariah-compliant?
Digital assets labelled as Shariah-compliant on Hata undergo a screening process to determine whether they meet the relevant Shariah requirements.
Assets carrying Hata’s Shariah-Compliant badge have been approved by the Shariah Advisory Council (SAC). It is easier for users to identify which available assets have received a Shariah-compliant designation directly from the platform.
Is Hata itself Shariah-compliant?
Yes.
Hata’s platform structure and mechanisms have been reviewed and endorsed by Amanie Advisors, Hata’s appointed Shariah Adviser.
This extends beyond the assets listed on Hata. The platform incorporates Shariah considerations across areas such as its buy-and-sell mechanism, custodial wallet, fees, staking rewards and other operations.

What does CEX mean?
CEX stands for Centralized Exchange.
A centralized exchange is a crypto trading platform operated by an organization that facilitates transactions between buyers and sellers.
Hata itself is an example of a centralized digital asset exchange: users create an account, deposit funds and use the platform to buy or sell supported digital assets.
But when you see CEX as an asset category, it refers to tokens that have origins in, or close historical relationships with, centralized exchange ecosystems.

The CEX label gives you some context about an asset's origins or ecosystem connections, but it doesn't necessarily mean that the token can only be used on a centralized exchange.
DEX
What is a DEX?
If CEX stands for Centralized Exchange, then DEX stands for Decentralized Exchange.
A decentralized exchange allows users to exchange digital assets using blockchain-based protocols rather than relying on a centralized operator to facilitate every transaction.
DEXs form an important part of Decentralized Finance, or DeFi, where financial applications are built using blockchain technology and smart contracts.

Meme coins
What are meme coins?
Meme coins are cryptocurrencies that are often inspired by internet memes, characters, jokes, trends or online communities.
One of the earliest and most well-known examples is Dogecoin (DOGE), which began in 2013 as a cryptocurrency inspired by the popular Doge internet meme.
Unlike digital assets built primarily around a particular blockchain technology or financial application, meme coins are often heavily influenced by their communities, internet culture and social attention.
Meme Doesn't Mean Risk-Free
Their fun branding can make meme coins easy to recognise, but they remain digital assets with real financial risks.
Meme coins can be particularly sensitive to social sentiment, trends and speculation, which means their prices may experience significant movements over short periods.
A familiar name, character or large online community should never be the only reason to purchase a digital asset.
