What is SEI?

Sei (SEI) is the native cryptocurrency of the Sei Network, a high-performance Layer-1 blockchain purpose-built for decentralized digital asset trading and high-frequency financial applications. Incidents of Manipulation or Security Failures

The Sei Network is secured by a delegated Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism based on Byzantine Fault Tolerant (BFT) principles. To achieve high-speed throughput, its current production architecture uses Twin Turbo Consensus with parallel execution and optimized block processing, targeting approximately 400-millisecond block times and one-block finality. While no major consensus-level double-spend or catastrophic base-layer exploit has been identified in the reviewed sources, the broader ecosystem remains exposed to external bridge, infrastructure, and upgrade-related risks. Major Sei protocol upgrades require validators and infrastructure providers to coordinate software updates, while the network's transition toward an EVM-only architecture involved staged changes to legacy IBC and CosmWasm functionality. Network integrity is further supported through validator monitoring, staking incentives, and validator enforcement mechanisms. Both the Core Team (20.00%) and Private Sale Investors (20.00%) allocations were subject to a 12-month (1-year) lock-up cliff starting from the August 2023 Token Generation Event (TGE), during which zero insider tokens were unlocked. The core network codebase, parallelized EVM compatibility layer (Sei v2), and state isolation mechanics have undergone security evaluations by major blockchain security firms such as Zellic and OtterSec. These security assessments focused on protocol execution paths, state isolation layers, optimistic parallelization, and SeiDB storage client adjustments to verify that the high-throughput design features no hidden inflation backdoors or cross-chain serialization risks.
